Biography

Dr. Anupama Pillai received her Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Process Engineering and Environmental Technology division, CSIR-NIIST, India. She developed a novel biological treatment system for removing endocrine disruptor, perchlorate from water during her Ph.D. She then joined School of Engineering, UBCO, as postdoctoral researcher at.  She worked on several interdisciplinary projects including developing sensors for environmental and biomedical applications, isolation and characterization of antimicrobial compound (violacein), application of fluorophore for cell imaging, developing PDMS based material for bacterial immobilization, and evaluating biofilm forming food pathogens.

Current Project

Anupama is the Cluster Coordinator for the UBC Cluster of Excellence in Comfort-Enhancing Technologies, as well as the lab manager for the OPERA lab.  Her research focus is on investigating human microbiome linked to malodour for developing antimicrobial fabrics.
